Apple Pie

This traditional apple pie is simple and delicious.

Crust

2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup butter
4-6 tablespoons water

Mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until course meal texture is obtained. Sprinkle water over dough mixing gradually with a fork. Form into a ball and chill for 10 minutes.

Roll out ball from center to edge until about 1/8 inch thick. Makes a top and bottom crust for one 9" pie.

Pie Filling

2/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
8 medium sized apples; peeled, cored and sliced

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a small bowl, mix together sugar, flour, cinnamon and cloves. Place half of the sliced apples in the bottom pie crust and sprinkle 1/2 of the sugar mixture over them. Place the remaining apples on top and sprinkle with remaining sugar.

Cover apples and mixture with the top crust. Press edges together using thumb and fore finger. Make 3 to 4 slits in top crust with knife. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes.

You can make the pie and freeze before baking. If baking frozen pie, increase baking time to 1 hour 20 minutes.

Enjoy!
